Letter to school about unexcused absences goes viral

Posted: Updated:

A man sparks a big debate on parenting by posting a letter to his children's school on Facebook.

The letter came after his kids were given three unexcused absences for going to watch him run in the Boston Marathon.

Mike Rossi, from Pennsylvania, had told the school his kids would be gone, but the district sent him a letter saying the absences would not be excused and more unexcused absences could lead to the district taking action.

"We went to where the Boston Tea Party was. We went to the Freedom Trail. So, we try to make it educational as well. To get a letter like that, that was pretty accusatory and the language was pretty hostile, it made me a little angry," said Rossi.

Rossi went to social media to complain saying the school's absentee policies were silly. The school district posted a response, saying kids need to understand the rules and that those rules need to be followed.
