IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

It took 18 innings and just under 6 hours, but the Hawkeye baseball team finally got it done. Iowa defeated Sacramento State 4-3 to win their 5th straight on Tuesday night.

John Barrett knocked a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 18th scoring Eric Toole for the walk off win.

Sacramento State put the Hawkeyes behind the 8-ball scoring on a sac fly in the 12th for a 3-2 advantage, but Iowa extended the game in the bottom half, scoring an unearned run on a throwing error. The two teams then went scoreless for the next 5 and a half innings before Barrett knocked in the winner.

The win moved Iowa to 4-0 in extra inning games this season, 3 of those coming in the last 7 days.

The Hawkeyes used 8 pitchers, scattering 17 Sacramento State hits in the ballgame.
