HILLS (KWWL) - An elementary school in Johnson County was briefly locked down Tuesday evening, but deputies say the situation was never dangerous.

According to Johnson County Sgt. Brad Fisher, a deputy pulled over a vehicle for allegedly speeding on Sand Rose Street near the city limit of Hills, just blocks from Hills Elementary School, at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The driver of the car fled on foot, according to Fisher, leaving four other people in the vehicle.

Deputies put the nearby elementary school on lockdown, although the lockdown only affected students and staff using the building after hours.

After about 90 minutes, deputies found the suspect in an apartment just a block away and arrested him on an outstanding warrant.

His name was not immediately available. Other charges could be pending.

No weapons were found on the suspect, and Fisher said the man was never a danger to the public.
