Hawks hold off Nebraska 4-3, remain 2nd in Big Ten

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

 The 17th ranked Iowa baseball team surged to an early lead and held off #25 Nebraska late to earn a 4-3 victory at Duane Banks Field on Saturday night.

Blake Hickman allowed 2 runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched, picking up the win to move his record to a perfect 5-0 in Big Ten play. Luke Vandermaten picked up his third save, forcing a groundout on the final play of the game with the potential tying run on third.

Iowa opened the game with 3 runs in the first scored on a pair of base hits by Nick Roscetti and Jimmy Frankos. Jake Mangler's RBI base hit in the 6th would turn out to be the game winner.

The Hawkeyes improved to 11-2 in Big Ten play, 1 game behind first place Illinois.
