CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) - Wrestling met robotics at the University of Northern Iowa on Friday.

Students from across the nation brought their robots to Cedar Falls for the 7th annual Mini-Sumo Robotics competition.

Students like UNI Sophomore Jessica Wayson built tiny robots controlled by computers, and then tried to push someone else's robot out of a circle.

These students are having fun, but there are a lot of lessons at work.

This project taught Wayson how to code, and she hopes the the skills she learned will be passed on to her students someday.

"It's a lot of troubleshooting," Wayson said. "It's a lot of problem-solving with that, and I think it's really critical skill that we haven't really focused on as much as we need to in the schools."

The event was sponsored by the UNI Department of Physics, North American Robotics Association (NARA), and SainLABS.
