WATERLOO (KWWL) -  Eastern Iowa Pre-K students are learning emergency preparedness with a new bus safety program.

Durham Safety Services put the program together to make sure when those kids go to school next year, they know what to do in emergency situations.

"The state of Iowa requires they do two bus evacuations a year, so we as a company offered to provide the kids with free bus evacuations if they let us come out and do this program," says Durham Safety Services supervisor Kathi Corbett.

The evacuation was a bit chaotic, loud, and scary, but kids fared well.

Corbett says starting the kids young on bus safety is important.

"We do it the first year, the second year, and then we keep repeating it, and we'll hope it'll stick."

About 6000 kids in the Waterloo School District take the bus each year.
