CORALVILLE (KWWL) - Three Illinois men are in custody after officials say they robbed a bank in Coralville Thursday morning.

James E. King, 30, of Joliet, Illinois; Benji R. Shaw, 24, of Decatur, Illinois; and Sedrick L. Dudley, 38, of Joliet, Illinois; were arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree robbery, a felony.

All three were taken to the Johnson County Jail.

Coralville Police responded to a report of a robbery at Bank of the West on 22nd Avenue in Coralville just before 11 a.m. Thursday.

According to police, two men entered the bank, gathered the occupants and demanded cash. At least one of them showed a handgun.

Both fled with an unknown amount of money and were last seen on foot headed east from the bank, according to police.

At the time of the robbery, however, two residents of a nearby apartment complex noticed a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot and its three occupants. The residents wrote down the license plate number and vehicle description, according to police.

Police then broadcast that vehicle information statewide, and Iowa State Patrol located the car eastbound on Interstate 80 near Walcott and took King, Shaw and Dudley into custody. Money was also recovered from the vehicle, and police believe it is from the robbery.

The investigation is continuing.
