IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A man who shares his name with a famous Olympic swimming champion was arrested in Iowa City after police say he was drunk and wouldn't leave the emergency room at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Michael Phelps, 42, also faces assault charges because, according to police, he hit a person he'd been living with for the past three years.

Phelps was booked in the Johnson County Jail early Wednesday morning after he registered a .356 blood alcohol level, more than 4 times the legal limit to drive.

On top of charges for domestic abuse and public intoxication, police say he was given a criminal trespass warning for all University of Iowa property for the next six months.
