CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The new downtown Cedar Rapids library is being recognized for going green.

The Cedar Rapids Public Library has received LEED Platinum Certification. That stands for Leadership in Energy& Environmental Design.

The downtown library replaces the one that was damaged in the 2008 flood.

The new library has several green features, many that make it energy efficient. It uses far less energy than the old library did. There's also a system that collects all the rainwater from the site and uses it to water the rooftop garden. This also helps prevent extra water going into the river when it rains.
