MADISON, Wis. (KWWL) - The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture records the fourth case of bird flu in Wisconsin.

On Wednesday, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection confirms the H5 avian influenza was detected in a Chippewa county flock of 87,000 turkeys.

Avian flu has already been found in Jefferson, Barron and Juneau Counties, resulting in the euthanasia of more than 310,000 birds in Wisconsin.

Outbreaks have been recorded in Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Arkansas, the Dakotas and Kansas, leading to the depopulation of more than 1 million turkeys and chickens since January.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, this stain of avian influenza is lethal to domestic poultry, however, it is not known to have caused disease in humans. Wisconsin officials do not expect the disease to pose a risk to public health or the food supply.
