PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wis. (KWWL) -

The Prairie du Chien Police Department says a 22-year-old man is in the hospital after being hit by a train.

According to Chief of Police Chad Abram, officers were called to the railroad crossing at East Blackhawk Avenue at around 1:19 a.m. Saturday.

Officers say the train was headed south and 22-year-old Daniel M. Gillitzer had been walking east when the accident happened.

Gillitzer was taken to Crossing Rivers Health before being flown to Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse.

Abram says the train was traveling at a slower speed because of a crew change that had taken place about a mile-and-a-half from the accident scene.

Abrams says they are still looking for a man that was reportedly with Gillitzer just before the accident.
