Hawkeyes rally past Northwestern with 3-run 9th inning

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

 The Hawkeye offense had their chances throughout, but didn't capitalize until the final moments. Iowa scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to rally past Northwestern 4-3 to remain tied for 1st in the Big Ten standings.

Down 3-1 entering the bottom of the 9th, the Hawkeyes put together the rally. With the bases loaded and no outs, Kris Goodman knocked an RBI single in to center to pull Iowa within one. In the next at bat, Eric Toole drove in the tying run with a sacrifice fly in to center. Jake Mangler then roped an RBI base hit into right-center plating the winning run.

The win moved Iowa to 9-1 in Big Ten play, tied with Illinois on top of the standings. Iowa and Northwestern play game 2 of a 3-game series on Saturday at 2 pm.
