FT. DODGE (AP) -

Fort Dodge police shot and killed a dog after it reportedly attacked two people.

The Fort Dodge Police Department and Blaine Hepp, an animal control officer, responded Thursday to a report of a dig biting someone.

Upon arrival, the dog allegedly attacked Hepp, prompting an officer to shoot it.

The dog died in the shooting. Hepp was taken to a local hospital. His condition wasn't immediately available.

A witness says he watched an officer fire two shots at the dog. Officers at the scene declined to comment.

The Messenger reports this was the second time that Fort Dodge police have shot a dog in recent weeks.

An officer shot a dog in March after it charged at him. The owner was charged and fined, and the dog survived.
