DUBUQUE (KWWL) - For the second time in a week, a pocket knife has been confiscated from a Dubuque elementary school student.

The first happened on Tuesday at Marshall Elementary School, the second today at Lincoln Elementary School.

In letters sent to parents, the schools say they learned from other students that the student had brought a pocket knife to school. They say the knives were immediately taken from the students.

They say appropriate disciplinary action will be taken once the investigation is complete.

Below are the letters sent to parents.

Dear Marshall Parents/Guardians:

I am writing to inform you that earlier today, we learned that a student was in possession of pocket knife at school. This incident was reported by other students and the knife was confiscated immediately.

As with all situations of this nature, school administrators and school resource officers are investigating to determine the exact happenings. The student involved is no longer in school while the situation is investigated and appropriate disciplinary action, if any, will be taken based on the investigation's results.

This is an important reminder that weapons of any kind, whether used in a threatening manner or not, are not allowed on school property at any time or for any reason. Please take a moment to talk with your students and remind them of this.

Thank you for helping raise awareness of this with your student. Please feel free to contact me or your child's teacher if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Joe Maloney - Principal
