DES MOINES (KWWL) -

A Des Moines woman lost custody of her two children after her toddler wandered into a grocery store alone.

According to a police report, a two-year-old wandered into the Hy-Vee store on Fleur Drive in Des Moines on Wednesday at 3:30 a.m.. The child was alone.

Store employees say the toddler grabbed a package of crackers from a snack display and ran out of the store. Police say the employees chased after the child, gave him a snack and called police.

The police report said the child was wearing dirty clothes and had an overly full diaper filled with urine and blood.

Police tracked down the mother because the boy had also wandered off last week.

When police arrived at Tiffany Fulcher's motel room, police say Fulcher was asleep, and the room was littered with broken cigarettes and smelled of cat litter.

Fulcher told police she worked late into the night, picked up her kids from a relative's and didn't get back to the hotel until early in the morning. She told police she locked the door, but the toddler knows how to unlock it.

The toddler and another child are now in the custody of the Department of Human Services.

No charges have been filed against Fulcher at this time.
