CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control is offering rabies vaccinations and microchip identification for dogs and cats at a discounted rate on May 3 at its shelter.

Rabies vaccinations will be $10 each and microchips $20 each.

This service is being offered for two hours only.

Rabies is a fatal animal disease that is naturally communicable to humans. Transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal, bite wounds are the most common method of infection, but any contact with saliva to an open wound or sore can cause infection.

Fox, raccoons and skunks are the most common mammals to catch, carry and spread the virus.

The shelter is located at 900 76th Avenue Drive SW – directly behind Washington Hall on the Kirkwood College Campus.

For more information, call (319) 286-5993.
