DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The American Red Cross announced Monday they are naming Bob Kirschbaum as the new Executive Director of the Northeast Iowa Chapter of the Red Cross.

Kirschbaum will be based out of Dubuque, leading the Northeast Chapter, which covers 17 counties.

“We are delighted to have Bob Kirschbaum as a part of our Iowa Region management team,” said Leslie Schaffer, Regional Executive for the Iowa Region of the Red Cross in a statement released Monday. “Bob brings a wealth of experience in education and service to others.”

Kirschbaum retired as an elementary school principal, where he gained invaluable experience organizing community events and speaking with numerous community organizations. During his 32 years serving in education, he has been recognized for his efforts including but not limited to; Iowa Reading Administrator-of-the-year, Iowa Educator-of-the-year, Northwest Iowa Principal-of-the-year and Southwest Iowa Principal-of-the-year. He was also elected President of the Iowa Reading Association, and within that organization was nominated to serve on the International Reading Association's Nomination Committee, where he represented educators worldwide. Now in his seventh year with the Red Cross, Kirschbaum was the recent recipient of the Paul Williams Humanitarian Award for his Dedication and Devotion to Family and Community.

“I feel really grateful for the opportunity to work for an organization that does such important work throughout Iowa, the country and around the world,” said Kirschbaum in a statement. “I look forward to working with Northeast Iowa Chapter team, including staff and volunteers, as well as our supporters who make the mission of the American Red Cross possible in northeast Iowa.”
