DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Clarence John Adams, or as his friends like to call him, "C.J." is a 93-years-old and constantly on the move.

Adams lives at the Mt. Pleasant Home in Dubuque and because of him, others are able to move around the building a little easier.

"We play cards here every morning and without the opener they quite often leave the door open or the latch wouldn't catch and we'd get pretty cold when they'd open the front door," Adams said.

So he found out how they could get the door to open and close automatically, and he made that happen.

"We got the handicapped people and also the workers, you know, they're happy. They punch the button and its open and they go through and they have no impediments at all," Adams said.

Adams funded the $4,000 it cost to make the door automatic.

He said this was the last thing he did with his wife before she died last summer.

"Someone who looks beyond themselves and their comfort and sees something that needs to be done and moves on it instead of talking about it all the time, he does something about it and in a very generous manner," Barbara French, Chairman of the Mt. Pleasant Resident Committee said.

"We got a good door opening, and we got a lot of good people that walk through the door," Adams said.

And he couldn't be any happier to help others.

"Giving gives you about the best feeling of anything that you can do," Adams said. "Taking, you might have a momentary rapture about it, but it doesn't last, but when you give it lasts forever. And that's what this is."
