COLLEGE PARK, Md. (KWWL) -

Iowa's offense did just enough as Hawkeye pitchers put together another gem to knock off #21 Maryland 2-1. With the win, Iowa moved to 8-1 in Big Ten play to remain in first place.

Calvin Matthews took the start, allowing the Terrapins lone run in his 5 innings pitched. Ryan Erickson and Luke Vandermaten combined to pitch shutout ball and allow just 2 hits in the final 4 innings. Erickson took the win, while Vandermaten grabbed the save.

Iowa and Maryland sat tied at one going in to the 7th inning. With runners on the corners and no outs, senior Jake Mangler grounded in to a 6-4-3 double play, but Nick Day managed to score from third for the go-ahead run.

The Hawkeyes picked up the win despite scratching out just 6 hits at the plate.

Iowa hosts Cornell in non-conference action on Wednesday.
