Cyclones end spring with Richardson at the helm

Posted: Updated:
AMES (KWWL) - Sam Richardson is the guy, while Grant Rohach and Joel Lanning are waiting in the wings should something happen. That's the word from Paul Rhoads as Iowa State wrapped up the early season with Saturday's spring game.

Richardson didn't quite shine on Saturday in an 11 of 23 effort for 149 yards which included one touchdown and one interception. Rhoads, however says he's seen much more out of his signal caller and offense throughout the spring.

"There's certainly a lot that you all didn't see today that we got accomplished in the other 14 practices," said Rhoads, "I think the growth of this team internally from a competitive standpoint, from a cohesion standpoint, maybe exceded expectations of where I wanted to get to by April 11.

"Sam is our guy and as we discussed 3-4 days ago, whatever it was. We've got 2 guys that we'll build packages around  and be able to operate with if something were to change or happen."
