Iowa man gets life in prison for 2009 killing of girlfriend

SIDNEY (AP) -  A 34-year-old southwest Iowa man has been given life in prison for killing his girlfriend in 2009.

Brian Davis, of Shenandoah, was sentenced on Thursday. In February he was found guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of Holly Durben on July 18, 2009.

Durben was found dead in a residence she shared with Davis, and an autopsy revealed that she was shot in the head. Prosecutors have said Durben's death was a homicide staged to look like a suicide. Davis' attorneys maintained that Durben killed herself.
