DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A robbery claim filed in Dubuque last month has been confirmed as false.

Jamal L. Gray, 18, reported a robbery to Dubuque Police on March 27.  Gray said he had been robbed at gunpoint in an alley, according to a release from Dubuque Police.

But when police looked at area traffic cameras, they found that a number of claims Gray made didn't add up, according to the release.  When confronted with those facts, Gray admitted to filing a false report.  The release said Gray filed the report because he had paid somebody to buy marijuana, but they didn't return with the drug.

According to the release, Gray turned himself in this morning to the Dubuque Law Enforcement Center, and following his initial appearance, was released on a $2,500 bond.

Filing a false report is a serious misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine of up to $1,875 and a year behind bars.
