City inviting kids to compete in local track championship

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

An area city's parks and recreation department is looking kids to complete in a track championship.

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation is wanting boys and girls ages 9 to 14 to compete in the Cedar Rapids local Live Healthy Iowa Kids Track Championships.

The competition is free of charge.

Events will include the 50 meter dash, 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 4 x 100 meter relay, standing long jump, and softball throw.

Winners in the Cedar Rapids meet will advance to the state championships in Marshalltown on Saturday, June 13.

Advance registration and proof of age are required. Register for the meet by filling out the form available online at www.CRYouthSports.com or the Ambroz Recreation Center, 2000 Mount Vernon Road SE. The registration deadline is Tuesday, April 14 by 5:00 p.m.

The championship will be held Saturday, April 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Kingston Stadium, 907 15th Street SW.
