IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The University of Iowa is going tobacco-free. Starting this fall, all tobacco products will be banned on campus.

That includes electronic cigarettes and chewing tobacco which are not currently covered by Iowa's Smokefree Air Act.

The policy applies to students, staff, faculty and visitors. The ban applies to all buildings, outdoor areas, and vehicles owned or leased by the university.

The policy becomes effective August 24, the start of the fall semester.

Currently, smoking cigarettes and cigars is banned on campus under the Smokefree Air Act.
