CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The quick thinking of a student and staff member at Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids helped prevent a small fire from getting bigger.

The Cedar Rapids Fire Department responded to the school around 9:45 Tuesday morning after receiving a report of a fire in a light fixture in the weight room. When firefighters arrived, there were no flames but the room smelled like burning plastic.

They say a staff member and student reacted quickly and used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire.

Firefighters ventilated the area.

There were no injuries.
