DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Firefighters in Dubuque had to put out a house fire Tuesday evening.

Firefighters responded to the 230 block of Cherry Street for a report of a house fire a little before 8:30 p.m.

They say the fire started on the porch and spread to the house.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and firefighters were able to rescue the family's cats from inside. No firefighters were injured.

The owners will not be able to stay at the home because the roof and attic were both damaged by the fire. There is also smoke and water damage throughout the home.

The fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
