DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

For the second time in the past few months, a rash of people living in Dubuque are reporting a home intrusion scam.

According to a release from the Dubuque Police, five incidents have been reported. Four of those have reported items being stolen from their house.

The release said the suspects are described as males with dark complexions, often wearing safety vests or other clothes that make them look more official.

Once the suspects gain access to a house, one distracts the resident while the other looks for items to steal. Those efforts to distract usually involve asking to check water pipes, meters and other things like that.

Most of the targeted houses have had elderly residents, the release said.  If you believe you're being scammed, you're encouraged to call the police immediately before letting anyone into your home.

If you have any information about this scam or the suspects, call the Dubuque Police at 563-589-4415.

Information leading to an arrest could result in a reward of up to $1,000 from Crime Stoppers, which you can reach at 800-747-0117 or 563-588-0714.  Callers may remain anonymous.
