JONES COUNTY (KWWL) -

Four people, a husband and wife and two brothers, have been arrested in connection with a bank robbery in Martelle.

Jones County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Exchange State Bank at 105 Marion Street in Martelle at around 12:15 p.m. Monday for a reported robbery.

Bank employees told deputies that two people came in with long guns, got an undisclosed amount of money and then left in a white Buick LeSabre with no license plates.

About 20 minutes later, deputies were told that a white car was abandoned and smoking on 230th Avenue, just north of 35th Street. Deputies say the car had been on fire and was the one seen leaving the bank in Martelle.

Two traffic stops a short time later resulted in the arrest of 24-year-old Andrew Palmer of Mechanicsville, 22-year-old Shiloh Palmer of Mt. Vernon, 41-year-old Peter Olinger of Mechanicsville and 25-year-old Elizabeth Olinger of Mechanicsville.

The Jones County Sheriff's Office says Andrew and Shiloh, who are brothers, robbed the bank while Peter Olinger waited in the car. They say Elizabeth Olinger, Peter's wife, then met the trio on 230th Avenue where they made a vehicle switch.

The Palmer brothers are charged with first degree robbery. The Olinger's are charged with aiding and abetting to robbery first degree.

The investigation continues.
