IOWA CITY (KWWL) - An area Parks and Recreation Department is making it easier for children who love to explore.

Iowa City's Park and Rec. is offering new Nature Explorations classes, geared toward students in 1st-4th grade.

Each session will include work in the Discovery Garden, as well as nature crafts, garden-inspired art projects, games, stories, and musical fun.

Sessions will include "Plants on the Grow" on Thursday, April 23, where kids will transplant seedlings into larger pots to get them ready for the garden.

On Thursday May 7, students will make small swings, paths, and other items for wee garden visitors for the "Gnomes and Fairies in the Garden" session.

The "Planting Extravaganza" on Thursday, May 21 is when the garden will be planned and planted with summer food crops.

All classes are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center, 220 S. Gilbert Street in Iowa City.

Cost is $6 per child per class.

Each child should bring bring a snack and jacket to each session, and meet in the Craft Room of the recreation center for the start of each class. through fourth grade, and will be held
