No new cases of chronic wasting disease detected in Iowa

ALLAMAKEE COUNTY (KWWL) -

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says they have found no new cases of chronic wasting disease after their special collection in Allamakee County.

One hundred deer were collected near Harpers Ferry in late February and early March.

Experts sent off 85 tissue samples from the deer to the National Veterinary Services Lab in Ames for testing. All of those samples came back clear of CWD.

There will be continued surveillance needed, but officials with the DNR say they are encouraged with their results.

CWD is a neurological disease affecting deer and elk. It is always deadly.
