WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank says they are officially debt-free, thanks to community support.

Construction for their new, multi-million dollar building started in 2012.

They have now been working out of that building for two years.

The first year in the new facility the Food Bank distributed 6.2 million pounds of food.

"It's estimated that 47,000 people are food insecure in northeast Iowa, and our programs help that, but we couldn't have done what we've done in the last two years without the support of the community," said Barb Prather, director.

Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 6 million pounds of food within their 16-county service area.
