WATERLOO (KWWL) - The names of two officers who fired shots at a man they say struck another Waterloo police officer with his vehicle have been released.

Officers Thomas Frein and Mark Nissen both fired shots at a vehicle being driven by Javon Webb, 27, of Waterloo.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Frein, Nissen and other officers responded to a fight at New World Lounge 2 in Waterloo.

Officers then attempted to stop Webb from getting into a vehicle and leaving the parking lot.

That's when DCI says Webb fled, driving toward Officer Steven Bose and striking him with the vehicle.

Frein and Nissen then opened fire on Webb, though Webb ultimately was able to flee the scene.

Webb showed up to Allen Hospital a short time later for multiple gunshot wounds.

Bose was treated and released at Allen for injuries sustained when he was hit by the vehicle, according to DCI.

No charges have been filed.

Frein was previously involved in an officer-involved shooting of a Minnesota man in May of 2013. In that instance, Richard Anderson, 39, was allegedly threatening officers with a knife in the 200 block of East Fourth Street.

Bose was previously involved in a fatal officer-involved shooting of Eric Rule of Waterloo in September of 2009. In that instance, Rule allegedly fought with officers and refused to comply with orders. Rule died of his injuries.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting overnight in Waterloo.

Police say the incident happened at 504 Riehl St. in the New World Lounge 2 parking lot. Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a fight involving roughly 40 people.

While attempting to break up the disturbance, officers attempted to stop a suspect, later identified as Javon Darnell Webb, 27, of Waterloo.

Webb got into a vehicle and attempted to leave the parking lot.

As he was fleeing the lot, he drove towards an officer, striking the officer with the vehicle. This action resulted in shots being fired at the vehicle.

A short time later, Webb arrived at Allen Hospital's Emergency Department with gunshot wounds. He is listed in critical, but stable condition.

The officer that was struck by the vehicle was treated and released.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Both officers involved were placed on administrative leave per department policy.
