Muscatine County puts burn ban in place

Posted: Updated:
MUSCATINE COUNTY (KWWL) -

Because of the recent dry conditions, the State Fire Marshal is granting a burn ban to Muscatine County. That burn ban went into effect at noon on Friday, and it will last until conditions improve until it's safe to lift the ban.

Any open burning within the county is banned, so burning in fields, ditches, wooded areas, or anywhere burning isn't permitted by the fire department is not allowed.

Burning with a valid permit is still allowed; however, be aware of the conditions. Consequences of an illegal burn can range from civil or criminal citations to fiscal responsibility for all damage that comes from burning.

The Muscatine County Sheriff's Department wants you to use common sense.
