IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

The month of April is Fair Housing Month and Iowa City is planning to host a training session.

The Iowa City Human Rights Commission and the Iowa Civil Rights Commission will sponsor the session, "Fair Housing Training for Landlords," to provide information on the federal, state and local laws dealing with fair housing and illegal discrimination.

The training will cover protected classes, service and support animals, accommodations for disabilities, discriminatory harassment, and other topics.

The training is free and open to the public for landlord and property owners.

The session will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21 at the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn Street. The event will be held in Meeting Room A. Presenters will be Linda Grathwohl and Emigdio Lopez-Sanders, Civil Rights Specialists with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission.

Organizers are asking that you pre-registration since space is limited to only 50 participants.

To register, e-mail humanrights@iowa-city.org. Registration will remain open through April 17 or until all spots are filled. Participants will receive a certificate of completion.

For more information, contact Stefanie Bowers, City of Iowa City Human Rights Coordinator, at 319-356-5022 or e-mail stefanie-bowers@iowa-city.org.
