WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Wednesday's windy, dry conditions were prime for grass fires.

The Waterloo Fire Department says they have someone on hand ready to man their brush truck.

They use it for all grass fires. It carries its own water and can easily go off road, unlike regular firetrucks.

Firefighters stress to never have a recreational fire or even grill on days like Wednesday.

They says the wind plays a huge factor in spreading fires, too.

"If you start a small fire and you leave it unattended for a second, next thing you know a house is burning or a garage or exterior building," said Waterloo Fire Chief Pat Treloar.

Treloar says he may put the city under a burn ban if we don't get substantial rain soon.
