Iowa receives GROW AMERICA funding

Posted: Updated:

Iowa is receiving $633 million from the federal government to repair aging roads and bridges under the GROW AMERICA Act.

The act is a nationwide effort to improve infrastructure spread over 6-years, to the tune of $478 billion.

“All over the country, I hear the same account: the need to repair and expand our surface transportation system has never been greater, and yet federal transportation funding has never been in such short supply,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said. “Our proposal provides a level of funding and also funding certainty that our partners need and deserve. This is an opportunity to break away from 10 years of flat funding, not to mention these past six years in which Congress has funded transportation by passing 32 short-term measures.”

The Federal Highway Administration says that in 2013, 6,271 of the 24,398 bridges in Iowa were determined to be structurally deficient or obsolete. 46% of roads were in poor or mediocre condition.
