BLACK HAWK COUNTY (KWWL) - In his seven years as the Black Hawk County Sheriff, Tony Thompson has been to too many accidents.

"Right there, in the middle of the median, we did a death notification one day," said Thompson.

The intersection of C-57, or Cedar Wapsi Road, and Highway 218 sees more than 20,000 vehicles in just one day.

Road crews are now working on an overpass at that intersection in hopes of alleviating some of that busy cross traffic.

Starting Wednesday, Cedar Wapsi Road will be closed on both sections of Hwy. 218.

Thompson says it's nice to see work underway on Hwy. 218 and Cedar Wapsi Road.

"Finally, the Band-Aids will be gone," said Thompson.

The project is set to take two years.

"If we can just raise and elevate and get the other cross traffic out of the way, that's the point of why we petitioned and fought so hard to get an interchange out here," said Thompson.
