BHCO sets electronics, toxins recycling day

Black Hawk Co. officials will host their “Electronic Recycling & Household Toxins Disposal Day” on Saturday, April 11.

Sponsored by the Black Hawk Co. Solid Waste Management Commission and the City of Waterloo, residents can drop off high-risk items, at the Waterloo Waste Treatment Plant from 9-2. The plant is located at 3505 Easton Ave.

This includes electronics like televisions and appliances, as well as law chemicals, batteries, propane tanks and light bulbs. A full list of items Is online at WasteTrac.org. Fees may apply.

Some items are excluded, however.

“The following items WILL NOT be accepted at the event: paint, appliances, tires, motor oil, antifreeze, ammunition, fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, asbestos, radioactive materials, or non-hazardous waste,” a department representative wrote. “To dispose of appliances or large bulk items, please call your city public works office, neighborhood association, or the Black Hawk County Landfill (296-2524).”
