WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo East graduate and NCAA wrestling champion Kyven Gadson will be recognized with his own day in his hometown. Waterloo will declare April 6th as Gadson Strong Day.

Gadson, an Iowa State senior, won the 2015 197 pound NCAA championship with a dramatic 2nd period pin over Ohio State's Kyle Snyder. It was the first NCAA title of his career, but marked his third All-American finish. He also won 2 state championships for the East High Trojans, where he was coached by his father Willie, who passed away in 2013 after a yearlong battle with cancer. Willie Gadson had also achieved All-American status as a wrestler at Iowa State.

Kyven Gadson's win made him the 13th wrestler from a Waterloo high school to win an NCAA Championship.
