Linn County Public Health stresses STI awareness

Posted: Updated:

The Linn County Public Health Department is encouraging people to get tested for sexually transmitted infections during National STI Awareness Month.

Throughout April, free STI and Rapid HIV testing is available Monday-Friday at Linn County Public Health.

The health department says there were 1,102 Linn County residents diagnosed with an STI in 2013 with the majority of cases diagnosed in people 15-24.

However, they say many cases are undiagnosed.

They estimate 1 in 2 sexually active young people will have an STI by age 25, but won't know because many STIs don't show symptoms.

More information about STIs is available here.
