IOWA CITY (KWWL) -  Iowa torched Indiana pitching for 6 runs in the first inning and never looked back, taking down the #19 Hoosiers 10-6 on Sunday afternoon. With the win, Iowa picked up their first conference opening sweep since 1989 and their first 3-0 conference start in 21 years.

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, Iowa brought 11 batters to the plate in the bottom half, scoring 6 runs on 5 hits.

“This sweep was exactly what we needed if we're going to try and compete for a championship,” said UI head coach Rick Heller. “When you have the opportunity to win three against one of the league favorites and you take advantage of it, it is a big deal."

The Hawkeyes 10 runs and 16 hits marked their top performance in both categories so far this season.

Iowa improved to 17-6 overall on the season.
