Winnie the cat still looking for new home

Posted: Updated:

A cat that survived being thrown in the Winnebago river in a duffel bag is still up for adoption.

Winnie, named for the river, is 10 years old. She's currently at the Humane Society of North Iowa in Mason City. Executive Director Sybil Soukup said they moved the cat into the general population Friday morning, to get her more exposure to people.

They hope to find her a good home soon.

Soukup said several people have contacted them looking to adopt her, but no one has filed a formal application.

Winnie's former owner, William Nathan Hill, 69, is facing charges of animal torture for allegedly throwing her in the river. In Iowa, for a first offense, this is a misdemeanor charge.
