The University of Northern Iowa department of earth science will host an advanced storm spotter training course in April.
The training will aid in getting a deeper understanding of storm scale meteorology and severe weather spotting.
The course will go through severe weather safety, tornado formation, and storm cloud features.
"Trained spotters are an integral part of the severe warning process for the National Weather Service," said Rod Donavon, advanced spotter training instructor. "They provide ground truth of what is occurring beneath thunderstorms in addition to providing visual confirmation of thunderstorm structure and severe weather characteristics."
The training is free and will be help on Thursday, April 23 at 7 pm in Latham Hall, Rm. 125.
