DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Ellen Hunt, an intensive care unit nurse educator at UnityPoint Finley Hospital in Dubuque, was recently recognized as part of the 100 Great Iowa Nurses program.

Hunt was one of more than 350 nurses nominated for the award.

100 Great Iowa Nurse Chairwoman Dr. Rita Frantz, says, “These extraordinary nurses exemplify compassion, dedication, and leadership. They are role models for anyone striving for excellence in the nursing field. We are fortunate to have Iowa nurses who go above and beyond every day.”

David Brandon, President and CEO at Finley Hospital, is pleased about this recognition for Hunt.

"Ellen truly is a great nurse and is extremely deserving of this award," Brandon said. "Ellen has played critical roles in developing protocols for cardiac arrest patients, establishing a pediatric rapid response team, and most recently launching a Nurse Residency Program at Finley."

This year's 100 Great Iowa Nurses will be honored on May 3 – the beginning of Nurses Week – at the 11th annual celebration in Des Moines.
