WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Bond has been set for the man accused of trying to stab his wife to death.

Reuben Stigler, of Waterloo, is facing several counts -- including Attempted Murder, Domestic Abuse with Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, Going Armed with Intent, Willful Injury and False Imprisonment. The charges stem from an incident where police believe he stabbed his wife, 40-year-old Angelia O'Connell, and beat her with a mallet. According to court documents, he said he wanted to 'watch her die.'

Police say he thought she was cheating on him.

Stigler is being held in the Black Hawk Co. jail on $1 million bail, according to the online jail roster.

O'Connell is in serious, but stable condition at an area hospital.
