Easter spending expected to reach $16.4 billion this year

Posted: Updated:
Easter shoppers will top last year's spending as they hunt down candy and new spring apparel.

That's according to the National Retail Federation's Easter survey, which found Americans will spend an average of $140.62 on Easter clothing, decorations, candy, food and other holiday-related items this year.

That's a little more than three dollars more than last year.

More than 87 percent of those celebrating Easter said they'll buy candy and chocolate. Forty-five percent said they'll buy new clothing for themselves and their family members.

According to the survey, total spending for this year's Easter is expected to reach 16.4 billion dollars.
