Former Hawkeye Wegher shows up at Iowa State Pro Day

Posted: Updated:

Former Iowa Hawkeye tailback Brandon Wegher was a surprise visitor at the Iowa State Pro Day.

Wegher ran for more than 600 yards and scored a freshman record 8 rushing touchdowns before leaving the Hawkeye Football program for personal reasons in 2010. After leaving Oklahoma University and Iowa Western for academic reasons Wegher encountered some off the field legal issues.  He finally ended up playing two seasons at NAIA Morningside in his hometown of Sioux City. During his two seasons Wegher rushed for more than 38-hundred yards and 48 touchdowns. Now he's looking for a shot in the NFL.
Wegher said, "I believe I have what it takes to be an NFL Football player--NFL Runningback that is. I've got the talent I've got the speed I've got the size. I've got a shaky past but I have definitely proven that's not me anymore.

Before being accepted at Iowa State's Pro Day, Wegher attempted to compete at the Hawkeyes' Pro Day.  But Iowa only accepts current players.
