WATERLOO (KWWL) - A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed multiple times. Now, her husband is charged with attempted murder.

"Originally, the report was kind of a fight between a husband and wife," said Capt. Dave Mohlis with the Waterloo Police Department.

But it wasn't just an argument.

When police arrived, they noticed Angelia O'Connell with multiple stab wounds. Her husband, Reuben Stigler, told police he thought she was cheating on him.

Stigler was at the apartment when police arrived. According to court documents, he said that he wanted her to die and he wanted to watch her die.

Stigler kicked her, hit her with a mallet, stabbed her several times and also cut her.

According to court records, he said he only stopped so she could "tell him the truth."
O'Connell was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. At last check, she was in stable condition.

Besides attempted murder, Stigler also faces several other charges, including domestic abuse and false imprisonment.
