Sheriff's deputy hospitalized after inmate attack

A Black Hawk County sheriff's deputy is in a hospital after an incident at the Black Hawk County Jail.

Authorities say the female deputy was working in the jail housing unit area when she was physically assaulted by an inmate around 9 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies say she is expected to survive her injuries.

Her name has not been released.

36-year-old John Delroy Young faces new charges of Willful Injury and Assault on a Peace Officer.

He has been held in the Black Hawk Co. Jail since December on several charges, including theft, burglary, and credit card fraud.

Deputies say he was not injured in the incident.
