Iowa Hawkeyes Prepare for Davidson

Posted: Updated:

It's been fourteen long years for Iowa Hawkeye fans since the 2001 team brought a NCAA tournament victory back to Iowa City.

This year's team thinks they have what it takes to change that.

The 7th seeded Hawkeyes (21-11) face the Davidson Wildcats (24-7) out of the Atlantic Ten Conference at 6:20 CST in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Davidson presents a tough task for the Hawkeyes, they are one of the better offensive teams in the country and have five players that shoot better than 40 behind the 3-point line.

"They can shoot it, and they can score they're a little smaller than us but their guards are very good," said junior point guard Mike Gesell.

"They're a great three point shooting team. Kalinoski (Davidson Guard Tyler Kalinoski) is the player of the year in the Atlantic 10. They've got multiple guys from different positions that can shoot the three," said senior forward Aaron White.

While the Wildcats are a deadly team from outside, they're smaller--giving the Hawkeyes the advantage inside.

"I think our length is going to be beneficial for us. I think they are going to have a hard time shooting over us because of our size," said Jarrod Uthoff, a junior forward.

"I think that's the strength of our team anyways is our frontcourt whether it's scoring down low or getting offensive boards so we definitely have to use that to our advantage," said White.
